MIAK Supported Serzh Sargsyan in Presidential Election | 01.12.2007
On December 1st
the agenda of the first meeting of the MIAK newly elected Board, that had taken
place in Gyumri, included the issue of clarification of MIAK`s position with
regard to the coming presidential election. Eighteen out of nineteen members participated
in the meeting.
The Board
members stressed the necessity of conducting the upcoming national elections in
a free and transparent manner which corresponds to the true democratic spirit. They also mentioned the exclusive meaning of
these elections in terms of further development of the political system in Armenia, deepening
the reforms and withstanding internal and external challenges posed in front of
the country. The Board members exchanged
opinions on the internal political situation and MIAK`s position in the presidential
election.
After the
discussions MIAK Board unanimously agreed that it would not propose its own
candidate and would support Prime
Minister Serzh Sargsyan`s candidacy during the upcoming presidential election. The Board formulated 10 main reasons justifying
MIAK`s decision to support the presidential candidate Serzh Sargsyan. At the same time, as a political force of the
future and a true proponent of changes, MIAK Board formulated 10 main changes
that it expects to be implemented by President Serzh Sargsyan. After the Board meeting newly elected MIAK
Secretary General Samvel Farmanyan, Secretary Levon Martirosyan and MIAK Board
Speaker Karen Matevosyan answered journalists` questions.
