November 17th is the International Students` Day. Currently it is celebrated as a holiday
symbolizing young people's solidarity and students` consent. This holiday has beautiful
and lively prehistory and not everyone knows about the events that preceded its
establishment.
Still in November 17, 1939 the students in Prague organized the extensive protest action
against the Nazi regime and country's occupation. The protest participants were
subjected to severe beating, during which there were victims and several
students were killed. In 2 years in London
in order to memorialize the students` solidary united struggle November 17th
was proclaimed as Students` Day. It received the final status of international
holiday on November 17th, 1946 during the Students` world congress
in the same Prague.
