MIAK Participated in Registering for “Marrow Donors Armenian Register”
Today MIAK "Health, Social Issues and Environmental" professional Committee initiated the process of donor registration in "Marrow Donors Armenian Register" centre. Based on the peculiarities of unique genetic structure of Armenians, if an Armenian serves as a donor for another Armenian, the recovery probability is huge.
Over 50 MIAK members along with the Secretary General, Secretariat and Board members displayed a high level of public and social responsibility and voluntarily did the necessary tests, namely oral blood and smear test thus becoming a potential marrow donor. They filled out their data with great eagerness by assuring that they would be waiting for the opportunity to come up as real donors in case of a possible match.
MIAK Secretariat member Arthur Gharagulyan mentioned that currently in Armenia there are 720 sick people waiting for genetically compatible marrow transplants and MIAK members are sure that donors will be found from the participants of todays action.
Afterwards the Medical Director of "Marrow Donors Armenian Register" Centre, Doctor Nazaretyan had a consulting type of conversation with MIAK members. He presented the history of the Centre creation, talked about the world recognition it enjoyed and its mission. He also expressed his gratitude to MIAK for this humane step, which shows a high degree of devotion to the nation. When answering questions, Mr. Nazaretyan provided details of further necessary steps when one becomes a donor.
The fact of development and registration of the roster will be of great help in saving lives of people and especially lives of Armenians suffering from severe blood diseases. This is another proof of the unity of the Armenian nation.
