June 1st is celebrated by the international community as International Child Protection Day.
This is one of the oldest international holidays which was proclaimed at a special session of the International Women’s Democrat Union in November 1949.
In 1992 when ratifying the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1989, the Republic of Armenia accepted that children are considered to be a special vulnerable group.
For the first time, the International Child Protection Day was celebrated in 1950.
On this day various events for children are organized in Yerevan’s city squares as well as in cultural and art centers.
