Within the framework of the "Youth and Politics" programme of the
Helsinki Citizen Assembly a visit was organized to Nagorno Karabakh. The participants
of the project were young activists from different parties both from Armenia,
MIAK, represented by Amalya Balabekyan and the Social Justice, "Free Motherland" party
from Nagorno Karabakh.

The meetings organized within the framework of the programme were rather
interesting and unique. The most memorable one was the meeting with Ashot
Ghulyan the Chairman of the Nagorno Karabakh National Assembly. The topics
discussed during this meeting were related to the status of Nagorno Karabakh,
as it is perceived by the world, Karabakh issues within the context of Armenia-Turkey
relations, etc. At the end of the
meeting the guests presented the participants with a book called "Statehood ."

There were also meetings organized with Vahram Atanesyan, a delegate of the
Nagorno Karabakh National Assembly, who is the Chairman of the Foreign
Relations Committee together with delegate Maxim Mirzoyan. The meeting was
attended by representatives from various
spheres of Nagorno Karabakh cultural and social life including those from the Young Politicians Club, State University
lecturers, and the Chief Editor of public television. The main discussion topic
was the position of the Nagorno Karabakh National Assembly with regard to the development
of Armenia-Turkey relations.

The program participants also visited the picturesque sites of Artsakh,
including the Gandzasar complex, St. Ghazanchechoc church of Shushi,
Vank village, etc.
